Great to meet with Alzheimer’s Society yesterday to discuss the urgent issues facing those affected by, both nationally and here in Suffolk Coastal. With around 1 million people in the UK currently living with dementia, set to rise to 1.4 million by 2040, I will continue doing all I can to make sure dementia is the political priority it needs to be.
In Suffolk Coastal, our dementia diagnosis rate is just 57.2%, well below the national average, which means many people aren’t getting the support they need. On top of this, families here provide unpaid care worth over £43 million each year, an incredible contribution that deserves greater recognition and support.
We explored how we can work together to improve diagnosis rates, deliver dementia training to adult social care staff, and improve access to vital treatments. I look forward to further advocating for these changes in Parliament and thank Alzheimer’s Society for the amazing work they do in this area.
